It was a day for the Northwood 1st XI to forget as Michaelhouse routed the Knights by 143 runs in a limited overs match in Durban on Saturday.
For half of the game, it appeared as if Northwood was in the contest. They kept the visitors to 190/9, with only four batsman making it into double figures.
Opener Graydon Leslie was the key performer for ‘House, scoring 88 from 120 balls, with four fours, and hanging around until he was the eighth batsman dismissed with the total on 177. In a low-scoring affair, his innings was head-and-shoulders above anything else produced on the day.
Hayden Hewlett and Ethan Muir weighed in with twenties, while Pride Buthelezi paced the Knights’ attack, knocking over 3/22 in his 10 overs.
Northwood’s reply started smoothly, if somewhat slowly, and they moved to 12 without loss in the seventh over before their first wicket went down. Thandanani Zuma, then, ripped through the hosts’ batting, removing four batsmen in double-quick time to leave the Knights tottering on 20/5 after 11.5 overs.
Nqobani Mokoena and Kyle White halted Michaelhouse’s run of wickets briefly, but disaster struck when Mokoena was run out, which left Northwood on 33/6, and soon that became 33/7, when Mason Storm was bowled by Harry Vickery.
After 29 overs, Northwood was dismissed for just 47, having not hit a single boundary. Kyle White, unbeaten on 19, was the only batsman to reach double figures.
Thandanani Zuma led the Michaelhouse attack with a stunning return of 4/12 from eight overs, while Radhesh Jhilmeet wiped out the tail to finish with 3/4 from five.
