The Westville Boys’ High 1st XI put on a spectacular show at the annual Westvaal North/South T20 Tournament in Pretoria over the weekend.
Playing against an elite field from across South Africa, the Griffin won five out of their six matches, recording wins over Jeppe, SACS, Hoërskool Centurion, the formidable two-time defending champions, Waterkloof, and St Stithians, after beating the Johannesburg powerhouse in the Oppenheimer Michaelmas Week, too. Westville’s only stumble came against Grey High School.
Throughout the event, Westville’s attacking batting was to the fore, and supported by a tight bowling attack, aided by good fielding, they finished with a record second only to the tournament winners, Affies.
It was a tremendous advertisement for the school’s cricket and the Westville 1st XI, especially, which made the adjustment to the highveld pitches as well as any team, playing as if they were on home soil.
