Under the lights at Hollywoodbets King’s Park, Hilton College produced a polished performance to beat Glenwood 26-7 in the final match of the Sharks High Schools Rugby Day on Saturday.

Glenwood was typically stubborn on defence, but they found few ways to trouble the Hilton defence until late in the game, when they were already 0-26 behind.

Hilton skipper Hanu Pieterse led from the front, twice crashing over to score, while Ivan Jjuuko and Josh Grant also breeched the Glenwood try line, and Liyema Nela converted three of the four tries.

The Green Machine mustered a 59th minute reply, with Sisiphiwo Dwayi, who also scored against Westville the previous weekend, going over for five, and Juan Viljoen tacking on another two points.

Hilton held the edge in the open age group games, but the four u16 matches were shared.

Glenwood’s depth shone in the u15 and u14 games, where they scored some big wins.

HOCKEY

The Hilton 1st XI has established itself as one of the country’s leading teams in 2024 and, playing at home on the Mansergh Astro, they were favoured to handle Glenwood.

Matches aren’t won on paper, of course. On-field performances matter, and Hilton delivered a dominating display, highlighted by their control of possession and passing.

Grant Bridgeford converted two penalty strokes for Hilton, while Tino Hove, captain Jared Kitto and Oscar Steiner also got onto the score sheet as the home side ran out 5-0 winners.

It was a clean sweep of the games for Hilton, but Glenwood was competitive. Four matches ended in victories by a single goal.
