Hilton College and Kearsney College provided rich entertainment on Saturday at Hilton. Surprisingly, the 1st XV rugby match and the 1st XI hockey game were the highest scoring contests of the day, producing 92 points and eight goals respectively!
RUGBY
Hilton and Kearsney are usually strong defensive units, and that has been shown time and again this season but, on Gilfillan Field on Saturday, it was the offences that called the shots.
The home side, which led 33-15 at the break, ran out 55-37 winners. Hilton crossed for eight tries and Kearsney went over for five of their own in a thrilling try-fest.

Results shaded Hilton’s way in the open and u16 games, while Kearsney enjoyed the better of the outcomes in the u15 and u14 age groups.
All three of the A team age group clashes were cliff-hangers, with Kearsney taking the u16A honours by three points, Hilton winning the u15A match by three, and the u14A sides playing to a draw.

HOCKEY
Both the Hilton and Kearsney 1st hockey teams are usually very tough to break down, but they found ways to open up one another on the Mansergh Astro.
They’ve established themselves as two of the better teams in KZN, and on the national level, so it was a rare treat for spectators to see so much goal scoring action. Unfortunately, the SuperSport Schools stream, complete with commentary, went down, which robbed hockey lovers who couldn’t make it to Hilton of a fantastic back-and-forth battle, but there will be more opportunities to watch these stout sides in action.
Again, as it was in the rugby matches, competition was tight. Hilton won four games, Kearsney won two, and five ended in draws.
