The DHS u16A side withstood a strong challenge from Pietersburg on Monday at the Glenwood Rugby Festival, winning 26-3, on a day that saw some of KZN’s other leading boys’ schools suffer losses.
Westville Boys’ High, whose u16s were unbeaten in the province in 2023, were blanked by Dinamika, going down 0-26, while Clifton College lost a tight one to Wesvalia, 7-14.
There were big wins for Sarel Cilliers, of Glencoe, and Bloemfontein’s Jim Fouché, who both posted more than 50 points.
Jim Fouché’s 1st XV also enjoyed a comfortable win, defeating Frikkie Meyer 26-3. Landboudal kept Eye of the Tiger off the scoreboard, winning 24-0, and HTS Middelburg overcame Wesvalia 31-12.
Melkbosstrand took a tight 13-7 win over Centurion and the three Invitational teams experienced mix results: DHS Invitational defeated Dinamika 15-5 but Glenwood Invitational and Hilton Invitational came out on the wrong end of hard-fought battles.
Volkskool Heidelberg beat the Glenwood Invitational side 22-14 and Potchefstroom Volkskool edged out the Hilton Invitational team 31-27.
