Saturday’s matches at the Glenwood Rugby Festival featured 1st and u16 teams, with Glenwood facing Wesvalia in the main game of the day. It wasn’t a high-scoring contest, with only 20 points produced, but Glenwood squeezed out an 11-9 win.
Jim Fouché won emphatically against Centurion, by 42 points, while the remainder of the matches were far tighter. There were seven 1st team games in all, with three sides winning after scoring 19 points each, and another match, between Frikkie Meyer and a Hilton College Invitation XV ending 19-19.
Glenwood enjoyed a 40-12 win over Wesvalia at u16 level, while DHS overran Potchefstroom Volkskool, winning 50-0. Clifton College, though, went down 5-26 against Dinamika, from Alberton, and a Westville u16 team was crushed 57-0 by Pietersburg.
Jim Fouché’s u16s mimicked the success of their 1st XV, recording a comfortable 34-7 win over Sarel Cilliers.
On Sunday, 2nd teams, u15 and u14 sides, will be in action. An early clash, at 08:00, between the Westville and Jim Fouché u15 sides looks like it could be an exciting contest, while DHS will aim to continue their hot start to the season when they take on Centurion at 13:00.
There’s a repeat of Westville vs Jim Fouché when those schools’ 2nd XVs meet at 15:40.
Glenwood finishes off its Wesvalia challenges when the Green Machine’s u14s tackles the Klerksdorp school at 09:00. Clifton College’s exciting u14 outfit takes on Trinity House in the next game, at 10:00, Westville faces Potchefstroom Volkskool after that, at 11:00, followed by DHS vs Volkskool Heidelberg, at 12:00, and Northwood vs Jim Fouché, at 13:00.
