BASKETBALL
Westville claimed a three-point win over Kearsney Invitational Basketball Tournament champions’ Northwood on Saturday. While the Knights claimed the title at Kearsney, Westville was that team that could have fared so much better with one or two breaks.
The Griffins’ free throw shooting has caught the eye early in the season. So often a weakness in the South African schoolboy game, it has become a strength of theirs, and it was, most definitely, the key to their win over DHS, too.
Westville’s under-16A team impressed with a big win over their Northwood opposition, but the teams from the north of Durban were victorious in the under-15A and under-14A games, which were decided by five and three points respectively.

WATER POLO
Westville enjoyed a surprisingly big victory over Northwood in the meeting of the two 1st teams. If anything, it reflected the potential of the Westville team, which has endured a bit of a hard luck story this season, losing to some of the top teams in the country by only a single goal. Yet, blessed with some outstanding players, when they hit their stride, they’re a very tough out.
For the most part, the games were tightly contested, with Westville enjoying ownership of the open age group, Northwood on top at under-15 level, and there being nothing to separate the two schools at under-14 level.
