WATER POLO
While the visitors, Saint Charles dominated the action on the basketball courts and cricket fields, Clifton’s prowess in the pool was on show as their water polo teams made waves at the KZN Top 10 tournaments.
Saturday was day two of the water polo tournaments and the Clifton 1st team remained undefeated by following up a Friday afternoon win over Northwood with three more victories, including a superb defensive display in a convincing win over Kearsney, and closer than expected defeat of Michaelhouse.
The Clifton u15s and u14s also produced unblemished records on Saturday, although the u15s were beaten by Hilton and Kearsney in hard-fought contests on Friday.

CRICKET
Talk about hitting your stride early! Saint Charles’ cricket teams were rampant against Hilton and Kearsney last weekend, winning 15 out of 18 matches against two very good cricket-playing schools, and it was more of the same on Saturday against Clifton.
Saints went six for six and weren’t really challenged. It’s been some start to the fourth term for the Pietermaritzburg school.

Basketball
Saint Charles were expected to own the basketball courts against Clifton. They have a proven pedigree, which included being the number one team in South Africa last season.
The challenges posed by the opposition presented obstacles for both schools, but the wind was another matter entirely.
Powering out of the south, it forced the players to make allowances for the powerful gusts when they were shooting free throws. It was an especially miserable experience for Clifton, who just couldn’t get a grip on the tough conditions.
Saints won comfortably, for the most part, but the Clifton under-14A team came every so close to handing the visitors a loss, losing by just one point.
