Oppenheimer Michaelmas Cricket Week results 1 Oct 2023

1 October 2023

On day two of the Oppenheimer Michaelmas Cricket Week, Grey College, Michaelhouse, Kearsney College, St Stithians and Saint John’s College all recorded their second successive wins.

Defeat on Goldstone’s

Unfortunately for the hosts, Maritzburg College, that meant a second loss on the trot on Goldstone’s, where Grey College put together a solid all-round showing to claim a convincing five-wicket win.

Kearsney College, however, produced an outstanding performance in an eight-wicket defeat of Waterkloof, which was highlighted by Sandiswa Yeni’s fine return of 6 for 40 with the ball.

Michaelhouse continued their strong form with another big win and another vital batting contribution from Murray Baker in their clash with Cornwall Hill College.

Big showdown

In a big showdown at Hilton College, St Stithians kept the talented Hilton batting line-up in check and then chased down the 212 required for victory despite slipping to 21 for 3 in the early stages of their run chase.

Meanwhile, Westville Boys’ High, who were well beaten by St Stithians on Saturday, rebounded with a good win over KES, with Aryan Gopalan delivering a telling all-round performance.

Clifton and Pretoria Boys’ High engaged in a hard-fought contest at Collegians, with PBHS coming away with a narrow two-wicket victory.

The Saint Charles College batting folded for a second day in succession as Jeppe romped to a big win, while Saint John’s cruised past Glenwood, who had looked so good on Saturday in a win over Cornwall Hill.

Affies were dominant in their clash against Northwood, who had difficulty building partnerships against the tight spin attack of the Pretoria school.
