There were some interesting results on day one of the 2023 Oppenheimer Michaelmas Cricket Week in the sweltering heat and humidity of Pietermaritzburg.

Kearsney College and KES played a tight game at Collegians, as did Northwood and Saint John’s College at UKZN. On Goldstone’s, Affies recorded a three-wicket win over Maritzburg College. Mostly, though, the results were pretty convincing victories for those on the right side of the outcomes.

Glenwood won very impressively by 146 runs against Cornwall Hill College, while both St Stithians and Clifton College recorded eight-wicket victories. Hilton and Michaelhouse enjoyed comfortable wins, but Saint Charles’ batting failed to fire in a loss to Grey College. Waterkloof also put a mark in the win column.
