Maritzburg College made the trip to Durban on Saturday to take on Northwood on the football field. Competition and results were, for the most part, extremely tight throughout the day.
The College 1st XI, with three trophies to their name this season, including, most recently, the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands FA Cup, were full of confidence for their clash with the Knights, and matters appeared as if they were going according to the form book when the visitors took a 1-0 lead.
Going behind on their home ground, though, stung Northwood into action and they struck back swiftly and hard, stunning College by finding the back of the net three times before the break.
In the second half, Mateo Horstead and his men pulled one goal back, but the Knights finished the season on a high, claiming a 3-2 victory.
Parity in the age groups
College claimed three wins out of four in the under-16 age group, including an A team victory, while the under-15 A game was drawn, with Northwood just edging the results.
The under-14 A match was also drawn, while Northwood’s D team claimed the biggest win of the day, and College’s C and D teams returned the favour by rolling to comfortable victories.
