St Charles College celebrates its 148th birthday

26 July 2023

Today, 26 July, Saint Charles College, which was founded in 1875, celebrated its Founders Day.

The school gathered together and the boys, from the Scrummies to the matrics, were treated to an inspiring speech by old boy Andrew Catlett, a man of average height, who tipped the scales at 145 kilograms in August 2020, who transformed himself into someone who ran and completed both the Two Oceans Ultramarathon and the Comrades this year.

Then, it was off for the annual Dash, a race from the school gates, around the circle at the end of the tree-lined drive, and back to the gates, covering a distance of 541 metres.

Boys in the junior, middle and senior age groups took on the challenge in three events, cheered on by their fellow Saints who lined the route, providing loud encouragement, with sports’ house honours on the line. Some learnt that a race of that distance is not a sprint!

After that, the entire school was treated to doughnuts in celebration of Saints’ birthday.

Great fun for a great school!

Happy 148th birthday, Saint Charles College.
