Kearsney College visited Maritzburg College on Wednesday for an almost complete schedule of fixtures in hockey and rugby. With Craven Week and Academy Week trials on the go, the 1st, 2nd, under-16A and under-15A rugby teams were not in action. Beyond that, though, there was plenty of action, with 13 rugby matches and 12 hockey matches being played.
RUGBY
The strength in depth of College’s rugby has been evident in 2023 and it was, once more, on show against Kearsney, who just a week earlier had won all but the 1st XV game in the open age group against Glenwood. This time, though, the 3rd XVs drew, but the rest of the senior age group matches went in College’s favour.
The Maritzburg teams were equally dominant in the under-16, under-15 and under-14 age groups, with College claiming a 36-19 win over Kearsney in the under-14 A clash.

HOCKEY
After three wins on the trot, the Kearsney 1st XI was held to a 2-2 draw by Maritzburg College on Pape’s Astro. College had shared the same scoreline with Westville Boys’ High in their most recent outing on Reunion Day.

The home team won the remainder of the open age group games and dominated the under-16 matches, but Kearsney came out on top in the under-14 age group, winning three of four, including the meeting between the two under-14A sides.
