It’s time to take a look at the goals and the tries we captured from the weekend’s action across KZN. We gave Hilton College and DHS their own separate story – that’s what happens when there are seven goals and 10 tries shared between the 1st teams – but the rest are here.
Before that, however, credit to Dan Becket of Maritzburg College for the photo above. Great shot!
Kearsney College vs Michaelhouse
Hockey
In a one-goal game, the big play is the goal. In Botha’s Hill, on Saturday, it went the way of Kearsney, who claimed a 1-0 win over Michaelhouse in the 1st team hockey clash.
Rugby
Michaelhouse claimed a narrow 23-20 win over Kearsney in the battle of the 1st XVs after staging a fightback, which was rounded off with a try befitting of a match-winning score. The early advantage, though, belonged to the one-stripes.

Maritzburg College vs Glenwood
Rugby
Unfortunately, there was no coverage of the 1st XV match between Maritzburg College and Glenwood on SuperSport Schools, likely as a result of a technical issue. For the record, College put together a strong performance to outplay the Green Machine and secure a 42-15 victory. It was their first over Glenwood in 13 years.
Hockey
Matters on Pape’s Astro also belonged to the host school, but Glenwood’s 1st XI showed they’re a much-improved outfit, pushing College hard in the hosts’ 3-1 victory.
Maritzburg College 1-0 Glenwood
Maritzburg College 1-1 Glenwood
Maritzburg College 2-1 Glenwood
Unfortunately, the third Maritzburg College goal, scored from a penalty stroke, was missed by the cameraman. Here’s the action that resulted in the stroke.
Westville vs Jeppe
They went down 31-43 to Jeppe, but the Westville Boys’ High 1st XV scored some of the weekend’s most exciting tries. The first was rounded off by fullback Tshegofatso Ramaloko.
Siya Ndlozi showed off his pace with a fantastic break to score Westville’s second against Jeppe.
Westville’s third was a special try, with the counter-attack beginning inside the Griffin’s own 10-metre line.
Scrumhalf Ryan Pistor caught Jeppe off-guard with a quick snipe from a penalty to score Westville’s fourth try.
