Michaelhouse debaters have been in excellent form in the Pietermaritzburg Debating League, even when they have found the odds stacked against them, as ‘House’s Junior League team found in the most recent round of the competition, hosted at Linpark High School last week.
Short of a speaker, Michaelhouse were forced to “iron person”, when a speaker delivers both speeches. In this instance, both Michaelhouse boys had to speak twice. They rose to the occasion, however, defeating Maritzburg College, with Vuyo Tsibani being named the Best Speaker.
Best Speaker
‘House produced another Best Speaker when Matthew Longmore led the Michaelhouse Junior 2 team to a win over Saint Nicholas.
Epworth stopped the run of Michaelhouse victories, edging out the Michaelhouse 1 E Block team in a tight contest.
However, the Michaelhouse 2 E Block team added another victory for the school, winning against Hilton College on the big derby weekend, with first-time speaker Neo Selibe being named Best Speaker.
