Kearsney made the short drive from Botha’s Hill down to Westville for a big programme of hockey and rugby matches against the Griffin on Saturday. While competition was tight, the home teams came away with the majority of victories, thanks to a strong set of hockey results, as Westville showed off its strength in depth.
Hockey
It was tight on the turf as five matches were decided by a single goal, but they all favoured Westville as the Griffin finished the day unbeaten, drawing only twice.
In the 1st team game, Kearsney were on the board first, but Westville rebounded quickly to level the scores and soon took the lead. A late goal gave them a 3-1 victory.
The under-16A sides shared a draw, while honours in the under-14 A clash went the way of Westville.

Rugby
High scoring was the name of the game in the 1st XV and 2nd XV games, which produced 63 and 83 points respectively, and victories for the Griffin in both. Kearsney, though, shared three wins with Westville in the six open age group matches.
‘Ville came out on top in the under-16 A game, and throughout the age group, but Kearsney came away with the under-15A and under-14A wins. It was two wins each at the under-15 level, and 3-1 to the visitors in the under-14 age group.
