The Westville Boys’ High 1st XV completed the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival, brought to you by Standard Bank, with an unbeaten record of three wins from three starts for the first time, and they, therefore, must highlight the Griffin’s sports’ results during the Easter holiday.
Producing a very physical game, behind a dominant set scrum and tidy lineout, with a hard-running backline showing no small amount of flair, the 1st XV impressed with wins over Noord-Kaap, English powerhouse Hartpury College, and Dr EG Jansen.
Only Westville, Glenwood and Monument emerged from the festival with clean records.
Pinnacle Schools was there and managed to get the inside scoop from coach Njabulo “Jabz” Zulu and captain Tebogo M’khomazi on the team’s performances.

The Griffin showed themselves to be a well-rounded, driven unit, and any team that faces them this season will know they have been in a game when the final whistle sounds; Westville’s hard-hitting was, arguably, the biggest of the festival.

The Westville under-16 team, meanwhile, travelled to Johannesburg for Jeppe’s Tony de Munnik Festival, where they faced a very tough three-game schedule. They rose to the challenge.
After a comprehensive victory over Graeme College, the side drew two matches in succession against renowned rugby schools, sharing draws against Grey High School and Monument, no mean feats!
The under-14 team performed strongly in the Skonk Nicholson Festival at Maritzburg College, defeating Pretoria Boys’ High and Zwartkop before ending with a draw against Dr EG Jansen.

Hockey
On the hockey front, action took place at the Riverside Sports Club, where the 1st XI, under-16 and under-14 teams faced teams from KZN, Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.
The 1st XI was at its best in a 4-0 shellacking of Paarl Boys’ High, while a tight 1-0 win over a good Saint Alban’s College team was also a decent result. Director of Hockey Cameron Mackay shared his thoughts with Pinnacle Schools after their excellent win over Paarl Boys’.
While the under-16 side recorded just a single victory in four outings, over Paarl Boys’ High, they were competitive in each of their defeats.
Meanwhile, the Westville under-14 team ran out winners in three of their five matches. Most impressive were their decisive victories over Garsfontein and Pearson.
