Encouraging results for KZN schools at Glenwood Rugby Festival

7 April 2023

The curtains fell on the 2023 Glenwood Rugby Festival on Thursday, 6 April, after a massive programme of 75 matches at the under-14, under-15, under-16 and under-19 levels.

With the second term forming the heart of the rugby season, it was an opportunity for the participating schools to iron out the kinks and chinks in their armour and test themselves against opposition they don’t usually get to see.

Often, 2nd XVs are forgotten, but not at the Glenwood Rugby Festival, with the hosts, Hilton College and Westville Boys’ High all playing three matches. Glenwood, DHS, Northwood, Clifton College and Kearsney College, meanwhile, ran out in age group matches.

Following the success of their A teams against Maritzburg College, DHS proved their pedigree during the Glenwood Festival, conceding only five points in nine matches spread across the under-14, under-15 and under-16 age groups. They also scored 386 points in response.

The DHS under-16 A rugby team was buzzing and full of smiles after a win over Volkskool Heidelberg.

Measured against the competition, it appears that rugby at all of the top KZN boys’ schools is in a very healthy state. Some cracking derby days are, no doubt, in the offing when the new term begins.
