Kearsney Speakers' Circle , 1st term, 2023.

10 March 2023

Kearsney College hosted its first Speakers’ Circle dinner of 2023 on Tuesday evening, with the boys rising to the occasion to deliver high quality speeches.

Founded in 2003, the Speakers’ Circle trains students in grades nine and 10 in the art of public speaking, including the construction and delivery of toasts; impromptu; icebreaker; prepared; object and evaluation speeches. The boys are also guided in table etiquette and how to be a gentleman.

At the last formal dinner of the year, the boys’ parents are invited to attend, and trophies are presented to the best speakers in a variety of categories.

In grades 11 and 12, boys may, then, join the Inner Circle. The goals are similar to Speakers’ Circle, but the format of the dinners differ slightly.

Girls’ schools are invited to the Inner Circle dinners at the end of every term. Then, at the final dinner, the boys’ mothers are invited to attend. Trophies are awarded to the best speakers, while half-colours are presented to boys who have been involved in public speaking for four years.

The Speakers’ Circle is part of Kearsney College’s rich and varied arts and culture programme, which is something that sets the school apart from others.

The school’s choir is a true headliner. Internationally renowned, it has won an astonishingly long list of international competitions through the years, most recently winning the Male Choirs category at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna in 2022.
