It has been an incredible start to 2023 for DHS hockey. It began with the opening of the DHS Astro on Friday, 17 February, and now matric pupil, Leruo Ditlhakanyane has been selected for the South African national under-21 team.

It’s an extraordinary achievement for Ditlhakanyane, who is also a prefect. But it’s also a continuation of an unfolding, remarkable story about hockey at the school.

From record numbers representing KZN Coastals in 2022, to the opening of the Astro, and now Leruo’s stunning achievement, DHS is making massive waves in the sport. It would be reasonable to expect that the forthcoming season will produce further highlights, especially given the boost the school will receive from the Blue and Gold Astro.

Now, with the hockey season almost upon us, optimism and expectations are, understandably, at an all-time high at DHS.

The school has played some outstanding team hockey through all age groups in recent seasons. But, no doubt, within the team environment one young man in the DHS 1st team will capture the spotlight. He’s earned it. All eyes will be on Leruo Ditlhakanyane.
