Clifton learners walked the talk on 16 February, which is when National Innovation Day is celebrated annually. The Day puts a spotlight on the innovations of inventors and also serves to inspire young people to pursue careers in technology and innovation.
For Clifton boys in grade 10 studying dramatic arts, National Innovation Day was about working with green screens and other technologies in the Knowles Creative Learning and Innovation Centre, where they focused on exploring the Ancient Greek Theatre. Others used the green screen to portray themselves among the planets of the solar system.
Green screens are the most effective and cost-effective method of adding special effects to videos. Utilising a method called chroma keying, green colours are filtered out and replaced by backgrounds and special effects.
National Innovation Day was also an exciting and fun time for the Broadcast Journalism students, who were involved in a live broadcast to the college.
Their work included a report-back on a recent blood donor clinic, which the school hosted, a surprise for the winner of the Fifa gaming competition from last year, and a promotion for the eSports League.
