Michaelhouse at the 2023 Midmar Mile.

The aQuellé Midmar Mile is the world’s largest open water swimming event, and one of the most inclusive, with finishers ranging in age from four years of age (although such young swimmers are not encouraged) to 92, which was achieved by Lorna Cochran in 2015.

This year, Michaelhouse contributed 35 swimmers to this great South African event, which consistently astounds foreigners who witness its scale for the first time. There is nothing to match it, they say.

With the Midmar Mile celebrating its milestone 50th event, the Michaelhouse boys were accompanied by teacher, Justin McDougall, and they, pleasingly, delivered a clean record as everyone who started the event finished it.

Nate Cochran also shone, finishing in 26:04, to place third in the 13-and-under category.
