The St Charles College 1st XI enjoyed their visit to Michaelhouse‘s Roy Gathorne Oval on Saturday, especially two bowlers, whose outstanding contributions helped Saints to a solid 68-run victory.
Starting at the end of the match, Ryan Clarke finished off Michaelhouse by claiming a hat-trick, but those were only half of his wickets. He bowled superbly to capture 6/24 from his 10 overs.
AJ Bosman made sure Clarke didn’t have to do it alone. He snagged 4/5 in fours overs as ‘House collapsed from 72/2 to 102 all out.
It was a chastening experience for the home side because they got away to a good start in pursuit of 173 for victory, with Ethan Muir and Kian Blignaut putting on 59 for the first wicket at around five runs an over.
Blignaut top-scored with 32, while Muir made 29. Ben Heuer, batting at 30, contributed 20 not out from 56 balls, but nobody else made it out of single figures.
Earlier, St Charles had tallied 172 all out from 48.3 overs, with opening batsman, Thando Zama (feature photo), playing the anchor role for Saints with 54 from 101 balls, four of which he hit to the boundary.
Five batsmen made it into double figures without reaching 20, but the combined impact of those efforts gave the visitors something to defend.
Opening bowler, Luke Mitchell, led the Michaelhouse attack, knocking over 3/29 from 10 overs. Harry Vickery removed two batsmen for 29 runs from five overs, while Michael Blignaut delivered 10 tidy overs, which brought him 2/28.
