Maritzburg College vs Glenwood

Goldstone’s has favoured the bowlers early in the 2025 season and it was more of the same on Saturday as Maritzburg College played host to Glenwood. A little over a week earlier, College had beaten the Green Machine by five wickets in a Schools SA20 clash.

The Red, Black, and White  were out in the middle first and were made to work hard. Thankfully, for the home side, captain and opener Daniel Nadasan did what he does best, get his head down and work the ball around to accumulate runs.

He top-scored for College, grinding his way to 45 from 118 balls while sharing in two key partnerships – 42 with Reece Willson and 49 with Luan van der Merwe. Willson chipped in with 25 and Van der Merwe with 28.

Krian Jugoo led the Glenwood attack, capturing 3/30 in 10 tidy overs. Mishael Gunawardana claimed 2/10 in two, while Akhil Maharaj (1/33) and Kyle Bryan (1/32) delivered economical 10 over returns.

After 50 overs, College had mustered 183/8.

Glenwood, in reply, had their opening batsman, Rehaan Jhungbathur, emulate College’s Nadasan. His innings lasted 107 deliveries and brought him 46 runs.

Unlike Nadasan, when Jhungbathur looked for support, it was lacking. He had made almost exactly half of Glenwood’s runs when he was the seventh man out, which left the Green Machine on 90/7.

They didn’t make it much further, bowled out for 99, leaving College the winners by 84 runs.

Nathan Pembridge excelled for College, knocking over 4/30 in 10 overs, while Reece Willson nabbed 2/12 from seven, and College skipper Nadasan took 2/9 from three.
