Michaelhouse is celebrating a 100 percent pass rate in the 2024 matric exams, with all of its learners achieving Bachelor’s Degree passes.
The strong results included 26 percent of the boys achieving an A aggregate, while a further 40 percent received B aggregates.
The average across all subjects was a healthy 73.29 percent, with learners averaging 2.6 A symbols each.
Michaelhouse’s sparkling 2023 IEB results
The Dux, Patrick Lambert, appears on the IEB’s Commendable Achievements List for finishing within the top five percent in five subjects, with a distinction in Life Orientation. He received eight distinctions and averaged 91.86 percent overall.
His results included 97 percent for Mathematics, 95 percent for FS Maths Standard (Calculus and Algebra), 95 percent for Economics, 93 percent for Physical Sciences, 92 percent for accounting, 90 percent for Life Orientation, 87 percent for Afrikaans (First Additional Language), and 86 percent for English Home Language.
The Proxime Accessit, Kian Moses, also received eight distinctions, with his average percentage of 91.14 percent almost matching that of Patrick Lambert.
His distinctions included 95 percent in FS Maths Standard (Calculus and Algebra), 94 percent for Mathematics, 94 percent for Physical Sciences, 93 percent for Life Orientation, 92 percent for Information Technology, 92 percent for Drama, 87 percent for English Home Language, and 83 percent for Afrikaans,
There was little space between the top two and third placed Matthew Kennedy, who produced a 91 percent average and eight distinctions, which included a sparkling 100 percent for Mathematics.
He also scored 96 percent for FS Maths Standard (Calculus and Algebra), 96 percent for Engineering Graphics and Design, 91 percent for Physical Sciences, 89 percent for Economics, 87 percent for Life Orientation, 86 percent for Afrikaans (First Additional Language, and 81 percent for English.
Michaelhouse boys excelled in Mathematics, with Matthew Kennedy scoring 100 percent, Dylan Noach 98 percent, Patrick Lambert 97 percent, Dylan Hewlett 96 percent, Brett Hill 96 percent, Johannes Zietsman 96 percent, Carlyle Hawkins 95 percent, Ayabonga Shivane 95 percent, Kian Moses 94 percent, and Michael Spencer 94 percent.
The top three performers – Lambert, Moses, Kennedy – added further distinctions in FS Maths Standard, scoring 95 percent, 95 percent, and 96 percent respectively.
Other marks exceeding 90 percent were achieved by Ayandiswa Buthelezi (isiZulu, 96 percent), Matthew Kennedy (Engineering Graphics and Design, 96 percent), Dylan Hewlett (Engineering Graphics and Design, 95 percent), Luke Kaufmann (Life Orientation, 95 percent), Patrick Lambert (Economics, 95 percent), Bongani Ngcobo (isiZulu First Additional Language, 95 percent), Kian Moses (Physical Science, 94 percent), Dylan Noach (Life Orientation, 94 percent), Luke Payne (Economics, 94 percent), and Seth Segal (Dramatic Arts, 94 percent).
Eight boys – Patrick Lambert, Kian Moses, Matthew Kennedy, Carlyle Hawkins, Dylan Hewlett, Luke Kaufmann, Dylan Noach, and Ayabonga Shivane – received eight distinctions.
There were seven distinctions each for Luke Payne, Michael Spencer, and Johannes Zietsmann, while Matthew Asherson, Lucien Baldry, Nicholas Fearnhead, Luke Haswell, Makabongwe Mace, Anesu Nduru, Nathan Strachan, Ruben Visagie, and Johannes Weyers received six each. A further six learners – Zak Aimone, Johnathan Baber, Luke Davidson, Ntando Mbhele, Damian Watson, and Nelisuzungu Zungu – picked up five each.
Matthew Kennedy and Dylan Noach played in the top one percent in South Africa for Mathematics, Luke Kaufman matched that achievement in English Home Language and Life Orientation, while Kian Moses was in the top one percent for Physical Sciences.
