Extraordinary Jinwon Ha highlights Clifton’s superb results

Clifton College is thrilled by an outstanding set of matric exam results led by a mind-boggling 11 distinctions from their Dux, Jinwon Ha, whose spectacular achievements include placing in the top one percent of IEB candidates in an astounding six subjects.

Those subjects included Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physical Sciences Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

His overall aggregate was a jaw-dropping 97.6 percent. However, he was not alone in excelling.

Four learners – Jake Savage, Ayush Koovarjee, Jadyn Naidoo, and Rushil Parbhoo – bagged nine distinctions each.

Savage’s came in Accounting, Afrikaans, English, History, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Music, and Physical Sciences, with an additional distinction of Mathematics Standard (Calculus and Algebra), a further studies’ subject.

Koovarjee’s list included Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Mathematics Standard (Calculus and Algebra), and Electives (Finance).

Naidoo’s distinctions covered Afrikaans, Engineering Design and Graphics, English, Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Mathematics Standard (Calculus and Algebra), Electives (Graph Theory and Matrices, Finance).

Parbhoo’s nine golden subjects were Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Mathematics Standard (Calculus and Algebra), Electives (Graphy Theory and Matrices, Finance).

Jonathan Hoarau racked up eight distinctions, while Yash Bhika, James Close, Nihal Maharaj, Kivashin Naicker, Yasheen Naidoo, and Matthew Turner achieved seven each.

Four learners – Ismail Bana, Jared Maingard, Rehaan Ramjith, and Zavar Sayed – scored six distinctions each, while Abdullah Ally, Rahul Boligarla, Owen Field, and Yaasir Shaik earned five each.

In an exceptional year, five Clifton boys featured on the IEB List of Outstanding Achievers countrywide for being in the top five percent of candidates in six subjects, while also scoring more than 80 percent in Life Orientation. They included Jinwon Ha, Ayush Koovarjee, Jadyn Naidoo, Yasheen Naidoo, and Jake Savage.

Yash Bhika, Jonathan Joarau, and Rushil Parbhoo made the IEB List of Outstanding Achievers for those candidates who placed in the top five percent of candidates in five subjects, and who also scored 80 percent of more in Life Orientation.

The list of learners who finished in the top one percent of individual subjects included Rahul Boligarla (Hindi); Thomas Ehrich (Engineering Design and Graphics); Jinwon Ha (Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physical Sciences Mathematics, and Physical Sciences); Ayush Koovarjee (Accounting, English, Physical Sciences); Jared Maingard (Business Studies); Jadyn Naidoo (Engineering Graphics and Design, English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences); Yasheen Naidoo (Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences); Rushil Parbhoo (English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences); Jake Savage (Accounting, Afrikaans, English, History, Music, Physical Sciences); Matthew Turner (Business Studies).

Seven Clifton candidates achieved aggregates of more than 90 percent, with Jinwon Ha leading the way at 96.7 percent, followed by Jake Savage’s 95 percent, Jadyn Naidoo’s 93.3 percent, Yasheen Naidoo’s 93 percent, Ayush Koovarjee’s 92.9 percent, Rushil Parbhoo’s 91.3 percent, and Yash Bhika’s 91 percent.

The school’s 100 candidates achieved a 100 percent pass rate, with 96.36 percent of them receiving a Bachelors Degree Pass.

A total of 29 marks were 95 percent or higher, while 69 marks were better than 90 percent.

Clifton’s Executive Headmaster, Clyde Mac Donald, in a message of the Clifton College class of 2024, said: “I am very proud of you, and I thank you for your years of dedication to the school. You have left an indelible mark, especially during our 100th year, and I wish you everything of the best for the future.”

He also encouraged the learners to express their gratitude to their parents and teachers, who had taught, guided, and supported them.
