Michaelhouse vs DHS results, 12 October 2024

The Durban High School (DHS) 1st XI has gone from strength to strength in 2024 and they continued their upward trajectory on Saturday on the Roy Gathorne Oval in Balgowan, romping to an emphatic seven-wicket win over Michaelhouse.

The toss went ‘House’s way, but not too much else did. They chose to bat first, but struggled against a disciplined bowling effort from School.

Ethan Muir top scored for the home side with 35 but his fourth wicket partnership of 32 with Murray Hall-Jones, who made 21, was the best that Michaelhouse could muster.

Taine Havemann did the damage up front, sending the top three in the Michaelhouse batting order packing. He picked up 3/32 in 10 overs, while Dhilan Naraidu, who shared the new ball with Havemann, ramped up the pressure with his return of 1/18 from 10.

DHS brought on their SA u19 Emerging fast bowler Bayanda Majola late in the Michaelhouse innings. He was the seventh bowler employed by captain Semal Pillay and he did his job well, capturing 2/16 in five, as ‘House clawed their way to 164/9 from their 50 overs.

While Michaelhouse struck twice early on in the DHS reply, they ran into trouble when Josh van Biljon joined Semal Pillay at the crease.  They combined for a 109-run partnership from 118 balls to guide the Horseflies to victory with 17.5 overs to spare.

Van Biljon made 55 from 68 balls, with nine fours, while Pillay was unbeaten at the conclusion of the contest, having scored 52 from 71 deliveries, with four fours.

Ross Moller was the pick of the Michaelhouse bowlers, claiming 2/18 in eight overs.
