Two Durban High School (DHS) boys, Lethabo Bogacwi and Lumi Matwele, Matt De Oliveira, of Kearsney College, and Northwood‘s Harley Jagga, were named in the South African Schools side at the conclusion of the SASHOC National Week in Bloemfontein on Friday.

Both Bogacwi and De Oliveira made the SA Schools team in 2023, while Matwele was included in the SA u17 squad. The SA Schools head coach is Kearsney College’s Director of Hockey, Keegan Pearce.

KZN Coastal A finished third after a 1-0 win over Southern Gauteng A, while KZN Inland A took fifth following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Southern Free State A. For a fourth time in succession, Western Province A lifted the title. This time it took a hotly contested 3-2 win over Boland in the final.

Noah Venter, of SACS, was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Jeppe’s Ethan Kapanda received the Defender of the Tournament Award. Southern Gauteng’s Tyler-Reed Napier, who is home schooled, was named the Midfielder of the Tournament.

Reuben Sendzul  (Paul Roos, Boland A) picked up two awards – the Striker of the Tournament and the Player of the Tournament. He scored 12 goals, two more than SACS’ star Litha Kraai. The leading scorer from KZN was Grant Bridgeford, who scored five times.

He and his Hilton College team-mate, Jarred Kitto, were named in the SA Schools B squad. Maritzburg College‘s Banele Dlamini also cracked the nod, as did Northwood’s James Read.

DHS had three players included in the SA u17 squad – Tyrique Cloete, Bhavesh Naicker and Sithsaba Siyoyo – while Hilton’s Reagan Mudau and Jayden Roux were also included. Kadin Jenkins, of Maritzburg College, joined them, and Ben Loxton, of Northwood, sparkled for the KZN Coastal B side, to secure a spot.
