DHS vs Michaelhouse results, YouTube highlights, 1 June 2024

4 June 2023

Van Heerden’s Field was electric on Durban High School‘s (DHS) Founders Day, Saturday, 1 June, especially with a formidable challenging awaiting the Horseflies in the form of Michaelhouse.

With DHS giving up only seven points a game on average in 2024, it was quite a shock for the large crowd of home supporters when Michaelhouse went over for a try through Luke Davidson after only three minutes, but School quickly and confidently hit back through Aka Boqwana and the battle was on.

There was another first half try from the powerful DHS centre Zingce Simka and a penalty from Boqwana, to a penalty from Davidson, for Michaelhouse, which took the halftime score to 15-10.

In the second half, DHS continued their defensive excellence, keeping ‘House scoreless, while Adriano Jackson was put over in the right-hand corner, and Boqwana added a penalty to secure a hard-fought 23-10 victory.

Michaelhouse showed good depth in the open age group, winning the 4th to 6th matches, but DHS took the 1st to 3rd victories.

School also comfortably won the u16A game, but ‘House picked up wins in the remaining contests in the age group.

The u15 matches were tightly contested, but DHS won the A and B games, Michaelhouse took the C team win, and the Horseflies won the D sides’ showdown.

DHS has been outstanding at u14 level this season and they continued their powerful form with four wins in four matches, with the A side romping to victory by 38 points.

HOCKEY

The Michaelhouse 1st XI has made encouraging strides in 2024. It took a while for them to find their feet under Nick Bérichon, who took over the reins of the 1st XI this season, but they’re playing good, positive hockey now, and they’ve recorded some very good wins.

A 3-0 victory over a strong St Andrew’s College team at the Bishops 175 Festival was an early indicator that things were turning around and, now, a 3-2 win at The Coliseum is further proof that ‘House hockey is on the up.

Indeed, throughout the fixtures, the visitors matched up well with DHS, who have proven themselves to be a serious force in KZN hockey in recent years.

Michaelhouse won the three open age group games. DHS claimed the u16A honours as both schools won two, lost two and drew one in the age group.

School won the u14A game comfortably, with the other two u14 matches resulting in a draw and a win for Michaelhouse.

Overall, DHS picked up four wins, Michaelhouse claimed five victories, and there were two draws.
