Wet and windy weather made for a stop-start contest blighted by errors as both the Maritzburg College and Glenwood 1st XVs tried to run the ball in the challenging conditions in Durban but had to resort to their packs doing most of the work.
With their forwards to the fore, College made some early inroads on their way to an 11-point victory over a Glenwood side that has been very good on defence so far this season.
It was a strong day for College, who, in the 1st XV game, avenged an unexpected loss on Dixon’s last season, and who went down in only one game on Saturday, with Glenwood’s u14B team preventing a clean sweep. The 2nd XVs shared a draw.

HOCKEY
Glenwood offered strong resistance to Maritzburg College in the first half of the 1st XI match on the 3 Schools Astro, which was played in the rain on Friday night.
However, College’s ball possession and the pressure they exerted on the Durban school eventually told and Brett Hosking got the Red, Black and White on the board late in the second chukka with a reverse stick shot.
In the second stanza, he netted a second, and vice-captain Julian Konigkramer matched him with a double of his own, while Ethan Maynard completing the scoring for College, who ran out comfortable winners, in the end.
It was a good day for the visitors, who went undefeated, with Glenwood’s u14A side giving College a hard time before going down 1-2.
