DHS 1st XI shines on tight final day of Coastal Cup

The final day of the Coastal Cup featured schools duelling at u14, u16 and 1st team levels – Clifton College vs Menlopark, Westville Boys’ High vs Garsfontein, St Alban’s College vs Pearson, Waterkloof vs Glenwood, and Paarl Boys’ High vs DHS – and none of them produced a clean sweep.

While Clifton defeated Menlopark 2-1 in their u14 clash, the Pretoria school ran out 2-0 winners in the u16 and 1st team matches.

Westville’s u14 team romped to a 6-0 victory over Garsfontein to lay claim to being the most dominant side of the entire festival. In four outings, they scored 22 times without conceding. Garsfontein, however, won the u16 match 1-0, and their 1st team upset Westville 3-1.

St Alban’s u14s outplayed Pearson 4-1, but the Eastern Cape side recorded a narrow 1-0 win in the u16 contest. The St Alban’s 1st team reversed that result.

Waterkloof were comfortable 4-1 winners over Glenwood at u14 level and held on for a 3-2 win in the u16 showdown. Glenwood, though, found their goal scoring form in the 1st XI match, winning 3-1.

Paarl Boys’ High were 2-1 winners over DHS in the u14 age group, and the u16s drew 2-2, but it was one-way traffic in the 1st team game, with the Durban boys cruising to a 5-0 victory.
