The DHS 1st XV sounded a warning to the rest of KZN when they recorded a 23-0 victory over a game Kearsney College on Stott Field on Saturday.
For a team playing its first match, especially against Kearsney, who had three behind them already, it was an impressive showing.
A number of players who ran out for the Horseflies in 2023 made their mark. Khanyisa Stamper, at 8th-man, was a dynamo with the ball in hand and a rock on defence, alongside flanker, Daniel Ikotela.
The scrum was steady, the lineout smooth, but DHS’s handling let them down at times.
Scrumhalf Marcwin Nero provided flyhalf Aka Boqwana with a clean and quick service, and he responded with a couple of tries and a good tactical kicking performance.
Allston Cedras also went over for a five-pointer. He tallied 13 points, adding two penalties and a conversion.
Overall, it was a very good day for the DHS rugby teams, with Kearsney managing only three wins, by their 5th, 6th and u15B teams.
