The threat of lightning brought an early end to the limited overs clash between the Hilton College and Kearsney College 1st XIs, as the skies darkened around the Hart-Davis Oval on Saturday, but not before the hosts’ Charles Swart had made an unbeaten century.
Swart finished on 100 exactly, having faced 107 balls. His knock included 11 fours and a six and helped Hilton to 234/6 after their 50 overs.
Jayden Roux weighed in with 33 from 69, and he and Swart added 53 for the third wicket.
A terrific cameo from Kyle Christie powered Hilton to a strong finish. He launched three sixes and two fours in a 13-ball innings which concluded with him on 31 not out. Ben Hockly and James Ogilby did their bit, both scoring 20.
Kearsney captain Ross Coetzee led the Kearsney attack well, snaring 2/37 with his off-spin, while Michael Groom gave little away, taking 1/9 from his five overs.
The visitors had reached 120/3 midway through their 50 overs when heavy rain and lightning brought the match to an end.
Cameron Veenstra struck 39 from 63 deliveries, while Coetzee, who has been in magnificent batting form, finished on 28 not out from 29 balls, which included four fours.
Christie captured 1/8 in four with the new ball.
Hilton’s 2nd XI and u16A sides scored comfortable seven-wicket wins, while their u15A team appeared on course for a victory before rain ended their match. The u14A game was evenly poised. Overall, however, it was three wins apiece.

Hilton, though, controlled the remainder of the open age group fixtures and edged out Kearsney at u15 level, but it was one apiece in the u14 age group.
