BASKETBALL
Northwood’s Knights made themselves at home at Hilton College on Saturday as they turned on the offensive fireworks to power their way to a 102-63 victory.
Coming off of a victory in the Kearsney Invitational Basketball Tournament in 2023, where their offence set them apart again, they’re a team that could make some serious noise this year. They’re feisty, well coached, and they’re blessed with some very talented players within their ranks.
Led by that impressive win, Northwood won three of the four open age group contests. They also scored a big big 30-point win in the u16A clash and won all of that age group’s matches, but Hilton ran out 19-point winners in the u15A game. They also narrowly edged the u15 age group by three wins to two.
In October 2023, Hilton’s u14A team were crowned the champions at the inaugural Michaelhouse Invitational Basketball Tournament and they continued their winning ways on Saturday against Northwood, powering their way to a big win. Their successes continued in the B, C and D matches.

CRICKET
It has been a difficult start to 2024 for the Hilton College 1st XI and Northwood, facing a team that is surely lacking in confidence after a tough run at the Old Mutual Peninsula Cricket Festival, delivered another defeat to Hilton.
In the u16 age group, Hilton recorded two hard-fought wins, but Northwood swept the u15 and u14 games. Last year, the Northwood u14 age group was particularly strong in the big three of cricket, rugby and hockey, so it will be interesting to see if they maintain that domination at u15 level this year.

In the pool, Hilton College won four, Northwood took three wins, and the schools shared two draws. It was tight, but not in the 1st team game, where Hilton outplayed Northwood to win by 10 goals.
The results in the open group were, however, split, with both schools winning two and drawing one. The u15A game also ended in a draw, with Northwood winning the u15B clash comfortably. Hilton were convincing winners of the two u14 clashes.
