Mthokozisi Shezi, along with a number of Hollywoodbets Dolphins‘ stars, who have also represented the Proteas, will be presenting a cricket coaching course on behalf of the Kearsney Cricket Academy at the school from 11-14 December.
He’ll be joined by all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo, who enjoyed a strong Cricket World Cup in India recently. Former Proteas’ batsman Khaya Zondo will also lend his expertise, as will fast bowler Daryn Dupavillon, who has worn the green and gold in ODIs for South Africa. A number of Kearsney College coaches will also share their knowledge.
Who should attend?
The coaching course is open to players from under-nine to under-18, and players of all skill levels are welcome. Participants will be divided into groups based on their skills and ages, Shezi said.
“We will cover all skills – batting, bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding. We’re also going to focus on the mental aspect of the game,” he said.
“For the younger players, we will teach them about field placings and teach them about a positive mindset.
“For the more senior guys, we will focus on how to perform under pressure. How do you do it? What do you concentrate on? We will teach them the techniques of what to do under pressure.”
Groups
There will be six groups of boys, he added. There are fewer girls who have signed up for the course.
If the girls are similarly skilled, they will be grouped together. Some girls, if they are very talented, could also be included in some of the boys’ groups.
The coaching hours each day are from 08:00 to 12:00.
