BASKETBALL

While Northwood got the better of Kearsney on the basketball court, there were an incredible number of games decided by three points or less: eight in total, and there was even one contest, between the u15E teams, that finished in a tie.

The Knights blasted out of the blocks in the 1st team game, racing into a 12-0 lead, and 16-3 after the first quarter, to set themselves up for a big 19-point win over Kearsney. They won all five open age group games, although the 2nd and 3rd sides did so by just one point.

The under-16 results were split 2-2, while Northwood edged the u15 results, with three wins, one loss and the aforementioned tie.

The cumulative score of the five under-14 games was 100-96 in Northwood’s favour, but Kearsney won three matches to two, and four of the five were decided by only two points.

CRICKET

Kearsney’s talented 1st XI has the ability to get on top of other teams and ruthlessly overpower them, if provided with an opening, and that’s what happened to Northwood on Saturday. Their batting misfired and Kearsney didn’t miss out on the opportunity to record a big victory.

That was, however, one of only two wins for Kearsney, because Northwood owned the under-15 and under-14 matches, recording emphatic victories in those four contests. Northwood edged the 2nd XI match by a single wicket, and Kearsney won by the same margin in the 3rd XI contest.

WATER POLO

Northwood’s short course pool has proved to be a happy hunting ground for Kearsney in recent weeks, with their under-16 side winning the Stayers Tournament and their under-14s winning the Northwood Tournament in the same waters last weekend.

The home side gave Kearsney a good go in the 1st team game. In the early going, the visitors cruised into a 3-0 lead, and it looked as if they would remain on cruise control for an easy victory. Northwood, though, fought back hard to level at 3-3. Still, Kearsney appeared relaxed and unconcerned, and they showed why by breaking clear and winning by six goals.

Northwood recorded two narrow wins in the other open age group games, while Kearsney won the u15A game and Northwood claimed the B team honours by the same exact margin. Kearsney, though, went two for two in the under-14 clashes.
