The Glenwood 1st XI recorded one of the most eye-opening results of the weekend with a big 80-run victory over Hilton College on Saturday in Durban.
Such a large win didn’t seem likely after the Green Machine, batting first, posted 161 all out, led by 26 each from Cameron Laing and Sbonelo Phewa. The wickets were shared around, with Matipa Denenga, Matthew Stewart, Ethan van Heerden and Brett Cutting all picking up two apiece.
Needing 162 to win, Hilton made it only halfway there. Dixon’s is a large field and free scoring hard to come, and Hilton simply failed to mount any sort of challenge to the Glenwood total.
Ross Boast, with 20, top scored for the black and white, while Sbonela Phewa picked up 2 for 16 and D Naraidu 2 for 20 before Kyle Bryan cleaned up the Hilton tail, capturing the last three wickets for just 12 runs, to see the visitors back in the hut for only 80.
Apart from that loss, it was a good day for Hilton, who won all but one of the remaining fixtures.
