The DHS swimming programme continues to go from strength to strength. Its latest success was achieved at the Curro AquaElite Gala in Hillcrest on Monday, where the Horseflies finished top of the standings after two days of competition.
Curro Hazeldean pushed School hard, but there was plenty of space between the top two and the other four schools – Curro Hillcrest, Grey College, Hoërskool Sentraal and SACS – who followed in that order.
Keyontae Raynard put together a long list of hugely impressive performances, winning five individual titles, including the 200m freestyle (2:01.31), the 100m butterfly (58.60), the 100m backstroke (1:04.46), the 200m individual medley (2:17.12), and the 100m freestyle (53.81).
Best performance
He was presented with the trophy for the best performance in the gala for his blistering 100m freestyle performance.
It was the depth of the DHS swimming, though, that brought them victory, with other consistent points’ scorers including Tristan Janse van Rensburg, Matthew Hunt, Marnu Koekemoer, Awande Nkunzi, and Callyn Kinsey.
DHS swimming has been on a rapid upwards trajectory in recent seasons, and it will be interesting to see if they can continue to build upon that impressive platform as we head into the warmer months.
