Day two showdowns lined up at Clifton Water Polo Tournament

22 September 2023

Day one of the 2023 Clifton Water Polo Tournament produced outstanding play from some of South Africa’s top schoolboy teams.

The hosts impressed, especially in their first outing against Grey College. The Free Staters had no answers to the questions posed by Mitchell Slade and his team, who were vociferously supported by their schoolmates up in the stands of the Clifton Aquatic Centre. They ran out winners by 17 goals in a contest which was the 100th in the 1st team for Clifton Head Boy David van Rooyen.

Westville Boys’ High enjoyed a good day, too, defeating DHS and a tough Affies team, while Kearsney College also won both of their games, seeing off KES and Glenwood.

Hilton recorded emphatic wins over Maritzburg College and Reddam Constantia, while SACS, ranked number one in the country, showed why they have earned that ranking, overrunning Glenwood and KES.

Saint John’s College romped to one-sided wins over Michaelhouse and Grey College, while Saint Andrew’s enjoyed two victories, albeit by two-goal and one-goal margins.

Paul Roos also ended the day with a clean record after accounting for DHS and Affies.
