The first weekend of summer sports delivered some interesting results – not so much in the cricket, which was affected by rain – but in the pool where a number of teams were in action in water polo, including Kearsney and Hilton College.
At the beginning of the year, Hilton handled Kearsney away from home, winning 11-8. More recently, though, in a pre-season clash on 1 August, Kearsney eked out a 10-9 win over Hilton. In a tiebreaker of sorts, played on Saturday, it was Kearsney who again came away with the win, taking an 8-5 victory.
Kearsney also faced Maritzburg College and would have been heavily favoured in that game. They duly delivered, running out 20-4 winners.
Pushed to the limit
Earlier in the week, Clifton had outplayed Kearsney, with Mitchell Slade and his team scoring an impressive 16-8 victory. They were pushed to the limit by Westville on Saturday, though, with Slade scoring within the last 10 seconds to snatch an 8-7 win for Clifton.
Glenwood enjoyed much the better of their meeting with Saint Charles College, romping to a 21-2 win. Interestingly, despite the emphatic nature of that victory, Saints were comfortable winners in the 2nd team game.
Northwood, meanwhile, hosted DHS and recorded a solid 11-4 win.
Many of the teams will shortly be heading off to tournaments around the country. We’ll keep track of them on Pinnacle Schools and bring you the YouTube Highlights, where they are available, thanks to SuperSport Schools.
