Clifton’s under-18 Sevens rugby team made a short trip down the south coast to contest the Kingsway Sevens on the weekend. It proved to be a worthwhile venture as the boys delivered a string of fine performances, which resulted in them capturing the Plate.
In pool play, Clifton recorded three convincing wins, defeating Curro Hillcrest 31-7, Durban North College 41-0, and Kuswag 29-12.
The only blot on their record was a 5-29 defeat to Westville, who have proved throughout the season that their Sevens team is among the very best in KZN, beyond a shadow of a doubt. They’ve been in the running for Cup honours week after week.
With three wins and one loss, Clifton faced the hosts, Kingsway, in the Plate Final. It was a tough tussle, but the boys in black and white outscored their opposition three tries to two to come away with a 17-12 victory and the silverware.
