Maritzburg College host Pretoria Boys’ High in huge derby

Maritzburg College is gearing up for a visit from Pretoria Boy’s High, which kicks off with some hockey matches on Friday afternoon, 28 July, and a College Music Exchange Concert in the Oliver Cultural Centre in the evening.

The Exchange Concert will feature the Pretoria Boys’ High School Big Band, the Maritzburg College Choir, the Maritzburg College Jazz Band and the Maritzburg College Jazz Ensemble. For those in the know, it’s a can’t-miss-it opportunity.

In conversation with the old boys of many of the top KZN schools, the Pretoria Boys’ High derby is one of their favourites, so big ups to the visitors from South Africa’s capital. Their excellence and approach to competition has struck a positive chord with many.

Deep fixture list

With two big schools doing battle, the fixtures run deep. There are 15 hockey matches on the slate and a massive 25 rugby matches. Plus, four football games will be played between College and Port Shepstone High, whose football pedigree is strong, too.

There will, naturally, be a lot of interest in the meeting of the two 1^st XVs, especially in light of College’s stirring and thrilling 50-31 victory over Boys’ High’s big Pretoria rivals, Affies, last weekend. The home team will be favoured, but they need to avoid a let-down after their outstanding performance in Pretoria.

When they took on PBHS in Pretoria on 22 April, the College 1st XV delivered a fine performance to run out 47-15 winners. Pretoria, it seems, favours their style of rugby.

The 1^st team hockey match takes place on Pape’s Astro at 11:00, while the 1^st XV clash kicks off at 14:00 on Goldstones.
