12 July 2023
The inaugural Kearsney Soccer Tournament, featuring 29 teams – 12 boys’ open, nine girls’ open, and eight primary schools’ boys’ sides – kicks off on Friday, 14 July. The boys’ open event includes Kearsney College, Durban High School (DHS) and Clifton College.
Pools
That trio are in Pool A, Pool B and Pool C respectively. Kearsney faces KZN teams Ashton Ballito, Curro Grantleigh (Richards Bay) and Paul Roos Gym from Stellenbosch.
In Pool B, DHS will be challenged by TUKS High School (Pretoria), Siyajabula High School (KZN) and Port Shepstone High.
Interestingly, DHS and Port Shepstone recently met in the semi-finals of the Coastal second term league and it was Sheppie that came away with the win. They finished as league runners-up to Glenwood after a penalty shootout, in which they were one kick away from the title, so they’re a team that bears watching. They play an entertaining brand of football.
Clifton, in Pool C, faces local opposition in Maqhutshana Secondary School, but out of province challenges from Urban Academy (Gqeberha) and Lebone II College (North West).
How to watch, where to find info
First prize for viewing the action is, of course, visiting Kearsney College. Entrance is via the main gate on Old Main Road. If you can’t make it there, then SuperSport Schools is covering the action.
For further information and to keep up to date with results and notifications, download the Kearsney Events app from the Google Play Store or the iStore.
