Hilton College head downhill to Botha’s Hill to take on Kearsney College on Saturday. It’s been a good season for Hilton’s 1st teams, but Kearsney are no pushovers, especially on home ground.
Unbeaten against KZN opposition on the rugby field, the Hilton 1st XV will fancy their chances when the teams run out onto Stott Field in the late afternoon. Kearsney, meanwhile, look like a much-improved outfit on the Astro, so a good battle is expected.
Further inland, Maritzburg College welcome Northwood to the KZN capital. The College 1st XV will be eager to reverse a defeat to Hilton College last weekend, and a match on Goldstone’s certainly helps their cause. Meanwhile, the Knights, who have enjoyed a strong hockey season, will be chasing a victory on Pape’s Astro, which has been a venue of misery for so many visitors over the years.
Close by, Saint Charles entertain Glenwood. The home side will be favoured in the clash of the two hockey 1st teams, but the Green Machine will go into their showdown with Saints expected to win. In patches, Saints have exhibited some fine rugby this season. Will they be able to put it all together on Saturday?
At Michaelhouse, Westville’s 1st hockey team will be aiming for a good follow-up to their shock 3-1 victory over a DHS team that won 5-0 at Michaelhouse earlier in the season. Their challenge this season has been consistency but, with Coastal Schools u18A defender Chad Slack back in their ranks, the Griffins look like a solid outfit.
On Meadows, Michaelhouse will be favoured to take the win against Westville. The only reversal the Balgowan boys have suffered against KZN opposition was a three-point loss to Hilton College, but, as we have pointed out previously, ‘House could have settled for a draw – they had a penalty five metres out from the posts, directly in front, right at the end of the game – but they went for the win and were stopped by their great rivals.
