Clifton College and Glenwood met in hockey fixtures at the Riverside Sports Club and rugby fixtures at Glenwood on Saturday, with both venues favouring the home teams.
Clifton ruled the roost in the hockey clashes, while Glenwood owned the honours in the rugby matches.
HOCKEY
In the open age groups, Clifton were runaway winners, but the Glenwood 1st team’s performance included some promising hockey. Coach Luke de Bruyn’s side is mostly composed of grade 10 and 11 boys and some of them showed up well.
Couple that with solid showings in the under-16 matches, where Glenwood under-16 A drew with a Clifton team that includes six KZN Coastals u16A selections, and there was something positive to take away from the day for the visitors.
It was tightly contested in the under-14 age group, with Clifton coming out on top.

RUGBY
Based on their rugby history, Glenwood was expected to win comfortably against Clifton, and they did, for the most part. However, the 1st XV match was a lot tighter than the score might indicate. It was 12-10 to the Green Machine at half-time, and the momentum appeared to be on Clifton’s side. Glenwood, though, broke the match open early in the second half, on their way to a 28-point victory.
