WBHS Muslim Student Association warms up winter

As the weather turns and the cold of winter starts to seep into the days, charitable organisations at schools are taking steps to help those in need, including Westville Boys’ High’s Muslim Student Association (MSA), which recently raised a record R90 000 for that purpose.

The MSA has been serving the underprivileged for over 13 years by collecting, organising and distributing food hampers during the Holy month of Ramadan. Thanks to their very successful fundraising, they were able to put together 450 substantial hampers for families.

Distribution

A large group of students turned the WBHS Multi-Purpose Centre into a packing centre, where they worked to put the much-needed hampers together. These were, then, distributed in and around Newlands East.

The Chairman of the Muslim Student Association, Yusuf Thandar, said: “Ramadan is a month of immense blessing and giving charity is one of the best ways to show support and focus on helping others.

“Fasting makes you more empathetic and allows one to consider the millions of individuals who many times fast involuntarily due to lack of provision.”
