In 2020 and 2022 respectively, Durban High School (DHS) students and brothers, Adam and Nureldin Mohamed, were offered full scholarships to Harvard University, where they are now studying Computer Science. They’re two among many high achievers who have followed the path of Cambridge learning at the school.
To say it has been a success since its introduction five years ago might be an understatement: every Cambridge student at DHS has produced either A grades, which is 80 percent and above, or A* grades, which is 90 percent and above.
Recognising the achievements of its students, DHS stated: “Our young men have joined the University of Cape Town for Medicine, Mechatronics and Actuarial Sciences, the University of Stellenbosch for Computer Sciences, Engineering and Actuarial Sciences, Wits University for Medicine, and Engineering, and UKZN for Law. All of our learners have passed with exceptional marks and the Dean’s Commendations. We are extremely proud of the foundations Cambridge has given them.”
A need to expand
As a result of those successes, demand for places at DHS on the Cambridge programme has risen, which has led to the need to expand the Cambridge and Nonpareil Academy.
DHS is located near the Musgrave Centre, in an established neighbourhood, which meant there was no opportunity to expand the footprint of the school’s grounds. Instead, it was decided to add a new floor to one of its current buildings.
Construction is now underway.
Admissions
Cambridge admissions at DHS for 2024 are open for Grade 8 IGCSE Preparation, Grade 9/10 IGCSE 2 Year Qualification, and Grade 11/12 AS and A Level Qualification.
