Two schools that have been hugely impressive in the early part of the winter sports season met at DHS on the weekend, with Northwood presenting a huge challenge to the Horseflies.
The hard-nosed spirit shown by the two schools was impressive, while the support for both schools was outstanding. This was competition at the highest level.
DHS, as they have done for most of the season, took the majority of the victories in the A team matches, but Northwood showed that their strength in depth is tough to match, ultimately winning more than they lost.
Rugby
In an absorbing encounter, the two 2nd XVs stole the show with a fantastic battle in the lead-up to the main game. The first half of that clash was a bit of a damp squib by comparison, to be honest, but after the break the home side turned the dial up on their intensity and powered their way to a decisive win.
Northwood earned a hard-fought victory in the under-16A game, but the DHS under-15A side outplayed their counterparts. At under-14A level, DHS picked up the win, but Northwood won three of the four remaining age group matches, with the other being drawn.

Hockey
Some fantastic hockey was played on Friday evening at The Coliseum, with the under-16A and 1st team matches, especially, delivering high-quality, exciting play.
The DHS under-16 side impressed with their relentless belief in themselves, even after they went 0-2 down to Northwood. The Horseflies kept taking the game to the visitors and were ultimately rewarded with a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Two very good sides duelled in a fantastic first team game. While DHS came away with a 1-0 victory, Northwood had their chances to win, owning a big advantage in the penalty corner count, but the Blue Typhoon produced a gritty, skilful performance to secure a stirring victory.
