Family fun at the Kearsney Freedom Day Youth Music Festival

18 April 2023

At a sparkling new venue, a deeply impressive line-up of talented schools, led by the multi-award-winning Kearsney College Choir and Orchestra, will be joined by the KZN Youth Choir, the KZN Youth Orchestra and the KZN Youth Wind Band on 27 April for the Kearsney College Youth Freedom Day Music Festival.

Last year’s inaugural event was an unequivocal success and this year’s concert promises to be bigger and better, ideally tailored for the entire family, with a larger stage and more space for concert-goers to relax in comfort.

Fig Tree Farms, in Hillcrest, will provide a beautiful backdrop for what promises to be a wonderfully entertaining concert. The country atmosphere lends itself to families bringing picnic blankets and baskets to dot the landscape with colour, sharing happy vibes and the spirit of Ubuntu.

If you’re not in the mood to do the catering yourself, Fig Tree Farm – https://figtreefarm.co.za/ – will offer plentiful options to satisfy and delight.

Deep line-up

The event also includes performances from Glenwood High School, St Anne’s College, St Mary’s DSG, Reddam House Umhlanga, Durban Girls’ College, Westville Senior Primary, St Benedict’s School, St Henry’s Marist Brothers, Highbury Preparatory, Eshowe High School, Pinetown Girls’ High School, Maritzburg Christian School, Treverton, Umhlali Prep and Imbeleko Academy.

Top billing, though, undoubtedly belongs to the Kearsney College Choir, which last year won the Male Choirs category at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna.

Kearsney Choir wins international Austrian competition

The Choir boasts an exceptional record of having won 15 Gold medals and seven Silver medals at the World Choir Games since 2000. It has, in addition, won international competitions in Austria, Germany, Latvia, Hong Kong, and the USA.
