Saint Charles vs Glenwood, and tournament results, 24-26 February

BASKETBALL

Capturing the biggest title in South African schoolboy basketball was, no doubt, a goal the Saint Charles College 1st team had set itself when the 2023 team first formed in 2022. Goal-setting and realising goals are two different things, however. There are many obstacles in the way of dreams. But Saints rose to the challenge admirably, winning most of their games by comfortable margins before capturing the title after a good battle with Saint David’s Marist Inanda.

Locally, Saints enjoyed good results against Glenwood, but found stiff resistance from Hilton College.

The Glenwood 1st XI, talented but somewhat inconsistent, would have come away the happier of the two first teams after setting Saint Charles a challenging victory target and then having them seven-down before rain intervened.

The Glenwood 3rd XI claimed a thrilling eight-run win over Saints, but the Pietermaritzburg school was dominant in the remaining fixtures, recording 11 victories.
